Events to check out this IWD

All About Women speaker series in Sydney

This Sydney Opera House event has been running for over a decade. Catch talks on topics around gender, justice and equality from 8-9th March. Some highlights this year include a discussion of the “Trad Wife” trend and a state of emergency panel on domestic and family violence.

Brush With Kindness volunteering

An initiative from Habitat for Humanity, Brush With Kindness is asking for corporate volunteers in Sydney, Newcastle, Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane to donate their time this IWD. Get involved by helping with renovations, painting, landscaping, gardening, and minor building repairs for the homes of people who may be escaping domestic violence or experiencing homelessness.

WA women-owned business showcase

It’s a party in Perth! Byford Co.Lab is marking IWD with a showcase of local, women-owned businesses. There’ll be food trucks, business stalls and demonstrations. It sounds like a great opportunity to support local business and a fun day out.

IWD rally in Melbourne

Australia’s first IWD rally was held almost 100 years ago. The tradition is still alive and well, with a rally to be held on March 6 in Melbourne starting from the State Library at 5.30pm. This rally is backed by We Are Union, an organisation fighting for reproductive leave in workplaces among other equality-enhancing causes.
